MSNBC reports that retired general and former CIA Director, David Petraeus, has pulled his name from consideration to serve as National Security Advisor to replace Michael Flynn. Flynn was recently dismissed from that post by President Trump for lying about whether he spoke to Russia’s Ambassador about US sanctions while he was still a private citizen.
MSNBC reports that Petraeus has declined the role because he wanted autonomy in selecting his staff. Flynn’s staff is still in place and the Trump Administration is not willing to shake that up.
The Trump administration confirms that David Petraeus is no longer under consideration. David Petraeus is the second person to pull his name from consideration for this role.
